AMEC Global Summit 2023
After a well-deserved break, my wife and I recently enjoyed a delightful 10-day trip to Los Angeles and Hawaii, accompanied by friends and family. Today, as I reflect on my experience at the AMEC Global Summit in Miami back in May, I feel compelled to offer a unique perspective amidst the abundance of positive reviews I've come across in the past month. What truly stood out to me was the incredible people and the overwhelming sense of hope that permeated the event.
Over the years, particularly in my line of work involving media collection and analysis, I've witnessed an overwhelming amount of negative news. However, this conference breathed new life into my optimism and provided a glimmer of hope. From the very beginning, as I stepped into the opening speeches and networking events, I was greeted by some of the brightest and most compassionate individuals. It wasn't just one or a few people; it was everyone. The keynote speeches addressed relevant topics, and the conversations held a deeper meaning. We openly shared our aspirations, fears, and dreams for a world where communication, data, storytelling, and ethics converge to create a better working and living environment.
People from all corners of the globe shared their stories, hopes, and challenges, making the conference a true representation of a global summit. Another reason for hope came in the form of a remark someone made to me. They said, "Have you ever struggled to explain to friends or colleagues what you do every day? Well, this is your tribe, your home. Everyone here in Miami shares your line of work, which is why it feels so easy to connect with people." Hearing this, I wholeheartedly recommend that those in our field join AMEC. It truly feels like home. During the summit, I had the opportunity to speak about AI Ethics within the realm of Digital Ethics, and it resonated deeply. There is much work to be done, and we must act swiftly, but at least there is hope that both individuals and decision-makers understand the urgency. We can tackle the difficult challenges head-on without delay, as our future depends on it. It's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
